Hi David-

I'm in Redondo and I'm with you on this- as much as I love cars the waste of resources and time to drive in L.A / South Bay has been slowly eating away at me.

The sad part is that your danger level only goes up the minute you step onto a street; I've had at least three or four very close calls over the years. I'm happy to help out in any way I can.

Statistically, driving a car is the most dangerous thing that most people do. Smoking is a deadlier practice, but only a minority of people smoke. Driving a car is something that nearly all adults do in the U.S., and automobile collisions kill about 40,000 people per year in the United States, each and every year. This information comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (the federal government).

Thats a good one. I'd love to see something like that to.
Here's an idea for getting to Long Beach but not so scenic. It would work on P.C.H. and a lot of other major thoroughfares with two or more lanes around here. We put "sharrows" (bike lane symbols that designate that bikes belong too) in all the right lanes. We can all share...bikes, slow cars, buses...it just oughta be.

This brings up another thought...Higher speeds may work on the interstate, but I think there are scientific studies that prove they don't necessarily work to improve traffic flow through our cities.

Lets slow things down!

Hi David,

This is an excellent site. I am becoming very suddenly aware of bicycle / pedestrian organizers, right here in the Torrance area.

I am an organizer of a non-profit energy-efficiency / green transportation fair, the South Bay Energy Fair. It takes place each spring in Rancho Palos Verdes. I would like to place a link to your site on the Energy Fair website.

Drop me a note if you'd like.

I'd like to see the Southbay bike path connect to the one in Palos Verdes, then to the San Pedro bike path, then all the way to Long Beach.

Does anyone have any ideas what it would take to make that become a reality?

We completely need a green line connection to Southbay Galeria. Connections through Venice, Marina Del Rey and Playa Del Rey would be awesome. I've also always thought it would be good if there was a light rail connection from LAX to Long Beach - Essentially the route that Metro Line 232 runs should be a rail line. There is so much traffic running up and down sepulveda, and the wider the streets get, the less people want to frequent them.
